The ‘Writing with Light’ workshop begins with a review of participant’s images, a lecture and a description of the week’s opportunities and possibilities. The overall agenda focuses on discovering the “undiscovered”.
San Miguel de Allende has been declared one of Mexico’s UNESCO sites due to the fascinating history, incredible architecture and outstanding number of picturesque sights that have been, and will be, unearthed and explored in the area.
The ‘Writing with Light’ course consists of utilizing the insights and outcome of the initial lecture to enable participants:
– to proceed in a creative, informed manner
– to obtain an understanding of Mexico’s rich culture and become familiar with the proper manner of approaching the locals to produce the best possible images
– to be comfortable walking around San Miguel, attending fiestas, entering a local families home, photographing artisans in their work environments, approaching a mariachi or native to pose and/or driving out to nearby ranchos or haciendas.*
Familiarity with the technical aspects of photography is an essential element in the process of capturing one’s vision. Basic and advanced techniques will be discussed daily as an integral part of the workshop.
The workshop format is never predictable. A combination of spontaneity and helpful information is encouraged to allow each individual participant to explore on his/her own and discover their own unique understanding of San Miguel’s unique variety of photo opportunities.
What to bring? Since it will be a week of hard work, participants will benefit by bringing as much equipment as possible to assist in capturing each and every image opportunity properly. Although you will not be carrying all your camera equipment on each outing it is best to bring as much of your equipment (tripod, cable release, flash, etc.) as possible to facilitate your work.
Who should attend? The ‘Writing with Light’workshop is for any one that takes photography seriously and wants to become more proficient at seeing light, composition and understanding the available tools to extract an inner vision.
Attendees may use digital capture, color C-41 or B/W C-41
*Participants are reminded that San Miguel has a fiesta to celebrate most days of the year!
